2021 CAC: High-Quality Professional Development on a Budget

The virtual 2021 California Assessment Conference (CAC) offers an excellent professional development opportunity for classroom educators at a low registration cost, and you can participate while in the comfort of your home or office!

ELPAC: New Time Frame for Counting Newly Identified RFEP Students

Local educational agencies (LEAs) are reminded that in 2020–21, the official count of reclassified fluent English proficient (RFEP) students transitioned to a count of students reclassified during the school year—from July 1 to June 30. Refer to CALPADS Update Flash #189 (September 3, 2020), which provided an important update on this change that aligns the RFEP count with the time frame used for the English Learner Progress Indicator on the California School Dashboard.

ELPAC Question of the Week

Q: When is the last day an LEA can use 2019–20 ELPAC scores for reclassification?

A: At any point during the year, LEAs may use consecutive scores for criterion 1, ELPAC scores, and criterion 4, test of basic skills, but they must always use the most current results. LEAs must update students’ English Language Acquisition Status in the California Longitudinal Pupil Data System (CALPADS) before the end of the 2020–21 Summative ELPAC testing window, which is July 30. CALPADS updates take up to 48 hours to feed into the Test Operations Management System; therefore, LEAs are advised to complete this process one week prior to the end of the testing window. If CALPADS is updated before the end of the testing window, students will be excluded from the LEA’s final Summative ELPAC eligibility list.
