Starting Smarter: Visit CDE’s Updated Version!
The California Department of Education (CDE), in partnership with Smarter Balanced and Learning Heroes, announces its updated version of the Starting Smarter website , available in both English and Spanish.
This website helps parents and guardians of children in grades three through eight and high school use CAASPP and ELPAC score reports in combination with grades, class tests, and their own observations of learning to get a more complete picture of their child’s learning. That way, parents and guardians can prepare to partner with their child’s teacher in the fall to co-create learning goals. The website offers families the following valuable information:
- Sample score reports
- Sample test questions and answers for mathematics and English language arts/literacy
- A beginning-of-year parent tool for conferences
- Resources for learning at home
Recent Update: California Assessment Timeline
The three-year California Assessment Timeline (PDF) has been updated to cover the administrations of California’s assessments for 2021–22 through 2023–24.

It’s Not Too Late: Register for the 2021 Assessment and Accountability Information Meeting!
There is still time to register for this year’s Assessment and Accountability Information Meeting (AAIM), which will consist of 90-minute, CDE-hosted sessions that will be held weekly from July 29 through September 2, starting at 2 p.m. The sessions will cover the latest information and updates on California's assessment and accountability systems.
By Request: Newly Reorganized Resource for Initial ELPAC
In response to feedback from the field, the CDE has reorganized the resource Correction of Classification Process at-a-Glance (PDF) to include the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System correction code for each process. This handy resource presents three correction of classification processes that can be used to correct a student’s current English Language Acquisition Status before the administration of the Summative ELPAC.
