New Video on Monitoring Test Completion Status!
Local educational agencies (LEAs) are now or soon will be testing, and many CAASPP and ELPAC LEA coordinators are reviewing the resources available for tracking student test completion. One such resource is the Completion Status Report System, which provides a means for viewing students’ test status and completion data. It enables authorized users to view students’ test progress information on their participation in the computer-based CAASPP and ELPAC.
LEA coordinators can now refer to the new How to Monitor Test Completion video for further support in their monitoring of test completion for the CAASPP and ELPAC. This video features an overview of the Completion Status Reports System as well as samples of each of the reports within the system. The video and other related resources are posted on the CAASPP Quick Reference Guides and Videos web page .
Moodle Training Site Adds New Support Web Page
The Moodle Training Site, on the CAASPP website, allows teachers and administrators to access training for the CAASPP and the ELPAC. A new training support web page in Moodle provides users with a number of helpful resources they can use to prepare for the Moodle trainings, including estimated completion times, at-a-glance documents, and a demonstration video. ELPAC Question of the Week
Q: Must students in an Adult Transition class who are still enrolled in grade twelve take the ELPAC?
A: Yes. Per ELPAC regulations (California Code of Regulations, Title 5, Section 11518.5[e]), students identified as English learner (EL) students in kindergarten through grade twelve, must be administered the Summative ELPAC annually until they are reclassified. EL students ages three through twenty-one are eligible for English learner services.
The same applies to students with the most significant cognitive disabilities who have been determined eligible to take the alternate assessments by an individualized education program team. They would be administered the Alternate ELPAC operational field test this year and the Summative Alternate ELPAC next year, when it becomes available on February 1, 2023.
March’s Featured Resource in Tools for Teachers—Recharging Our Groundwater
Middle school teachers can use this month’s Tools for Teachers science instructional website resource, Recharging Our Groundwater , to help their students investigate the factors that affect groundwater recharge. This simulation-based lesson, aligned with the California Next Generation Science Standards, focuses on the Science and Engineering Practice: Constructing Explanations and Designing Solutions.
During the lesson, students apply formative assessment strategies and collect data using geographic information system (GIS) mapping tools to investigate how different soil types and land cover affect runoff and infiltration. In light of today’s water shortages and continuing drought, now is the perfect time to introduce students to the cause-and-effect relationships that affect the availability of groundwater in California.
