Who is eligible to apply?
Any student who is a California resident and enrolled in a public high school, will be a senior in good standing in the 2024-25 school year, and will be available to participate in a statewide student leader conference November 5 – November 8, 2023, in Sacramento, is eligible to apply.
What is the position?
The Student Board Member is a full voting member of the State Board of Education, the governing body that sets policy for the state's public elementary, middle, and high schools.
What is the commitment?
The Student Board Member is asked to (1) attend all meetings of the State Board (at least two days every other month, plus special meetings, when needed) in Sacramento; (2) give sufficient time to review agenda items coming before the State Board; and (3) assume the responsibilities of a full member of the State Board.
When are applications due?
Complete applications must be received in the State Board of Education Office no later than 5:00 p.m., Friday, September 22, 2023. Please submit your application via email at: sbe@sbe.ca.gov. A single PDF of the application, letters of recommendation, transcript, and supplemental items is preferred.
