Dear Local Education Agencies:
Please be advised that beginning in the spring of 2020, all local educational agencies (LEAs) that offer career technical education (CTE) courses and code them as such, are required to report their CTE data into the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS). LEAs are required to survey students six months after leaving secondary education, which is about the December/January timeframe. While this reporting is required in part by the U.S. Department of Education in fulfillment of the State of California receiving Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (Perkins V) funds and to provide local assistance funds to LEAs; additionally this reporting is a requirement of LEAs who also receive the following state funds including, but not limited to, the CTE Incentive Grant (CTEIG) and the Kindergarten through Grade Twelve Strong Workforce Program (K–12 SWP).
Regardless of receiving federal or state funds for your local CTE programs, LEAs are required to report CTE data into CALPADS. Postsecondary status survey data of CTE Completers who left secondary education in 2019–20 is required as part of the Fall 2 submission and must be certified in CALPADS by March 5, 2021, and annually thereafter. The CTE data collected will not only be used to fulfill program requirements, but it will also be used in assessing the needs of CTE programs throughout the state. Failure to report data will result in an LEA being deemed ineligible for future rounds of federal and state funding including Perkins V, CTEIG, and K–12 SWP.
Attached to this letter is the 2019–20 CTE Postsecondary Status of CTE Completer Survey Directions and Template along with a Mapping Guide to CALPADS Postsecondary Transition Status File. These documents will assist you in collecting and reporting the required data. Please, do not wait until the March 5, 2021, deadline to submit the data.
In addition, the CTE Leadership Office (CTELO) staff will be hosting a series of webinars and providing technical assistance throughout the months of December 2020 and January 2021 to assist you in this process. We invite you to join one or more of the following webinars that have been scheduled and will provide more details at a future date:
December 8, 2020 (9 a.m.–10 a.m.)
December 15, 2020 (3 p.m.–4 p.m.)
January 12, 2021 (9 a.m.–10 a.m. and 3 p.m.–4 p.m.)
