Glossary-2020 AP Report
This glossary defines key terms shown on the school, district, county, and state level 2020 AP Report. Background
The California Department of Education (CDE) has a data agreement with the College Board that allows the CDE to match AP test takers to their CDE Statewide Student Identifiers (SSID) and California public schools in order to produce an AP report for each school and district. As with previous reports, these results are aggregated to produce school, district, county, and state-level reports.
Starting with the 2019 AP reports, demographic data is available in the downloadable AP file.
An AP report is provided for all California public schools with an enrollment equal to or greater than 15 students. The report will display the following:
- Scores if 15 or more students took the AP exam
- An asterisks (*) to preserve student anonymity if at least one student, but less than 15 students, took the AP exam
- An N/A if zeros students took the AP exam, and the entity had a grade twelve enrollment equal to or greater than 15
School types that receive a report are high, middle, K-12, opportunity, and alternative. Adult education schools and Regional Occupational Centers and Programs do not receive a report.
Note: California Education Authority (CEA) school’s AP results are not reported at the school or district levels but are rolled up to the county and state levels. Additionally, students who could not be matched to a school were excluded from the school, district, and county levels and rolled up to the state level.
AP scores range from 1 to 5 points—a score of 3 or above is passing.
