SB 70 Distance Learning Pilot

Funding Description

In 2005, the Governor’s Initiative on Improving and Strengthening Career Technical Education (CTE) was successfully carried through Senate Bill (SB) 70 by Senator Scott. SB 70 allocated $20,000,000 from the Community College reversion account to be specifically used for the improving of CTE at both the community college and secondary level. Last year, SB 1130 was signed by the Governor to continue this important work with additional funding for the next five years through the 2013-14 fiscal years. The SB 70 Distance Learning Pilot invites submission from Local Educational Agencies (LEAs), California community colleges, state universities, and state agencies to develop, implement, distribute and support participation in Career Technical Education courses at a distance for residents in areas of rural California. Organizations from urban areas may apply provided that the courses are implemented and distributed to rural areas.
