Title III, Part A, Language Instruction for English Learners

Funding Description

Funding is made available to eligible local educational agencies (LEAs) to provide supplementary programs and services to limited English proficient (LEP) students, known as English learners (ELs). The purpose of the subgrants is to assist EL students to acquire English and achieve grade-level and graduation standards. Note: Recipients and funding amounts are subject to budget and administrative adjustments. Late applicants will be funded based on availability of funds.

Required Eligibility Criteria An LEA that reported the enrollment of one or more EL students through October 2015 California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS) data collection is eligible to apply.
Other Eligibility Considerations LEAs eligible to receive a formula subgrant of $10,000 or more may apply for Title III LEP funds directly via the Consolidated Application and Reporting System (CARS). LEAs eligible to receive a formula subgrant of less than $10,000 must apply as a consortium via the consortium online application (COA).

Other LEAs are asked to accept or decline funds via the Consolidated Application and Reporting System (CARS) by June 30, 2016. In addition, LEAs that are required to apply as a consortium must also submit an application through the consortia online application. Consortium applications are due on or before June 30, 2016. LEAs that fail to respond by the deadline cannot be guaranteed for 2016-17.
