2017–18 California-grown Fresh School Meals Grant

Funding Description

These grants provide up to $125,000 per school site to encourage schools to purchase California-grown food and to expand the number of freshly prepared school meals that use California-grown ingredients.

Eligibility

Eligible Applicants Local educational agencies
Required Eligibility Criteria SFAs agree to purchase California-grown food items and to expand the number of freshly prepared school meals that use California-grown ingredients, in accordance with the federal National School Lunch Program or School Breakfast Program. Preference will be given to sites with at least 50 percent of the enrolled students approved for free or reduced-price meals, and that provide professional development to food service employees, and that partner with organizations that provide California-grown food.

Funding

Legal Authority Established by an appropriation to the State Superintendent of Public Instruction for school districts as defined in subdivision (c) of Section 41202 of the Education Code, for the 2017–18 fiscal year from General Fund proceeds of taxes appropriated pursuant to Article XIII B.
