CALPADS Data Collection for P-EBT

This communication is to bring to your attention the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS) Flash #250 sent on May 3, 2023. This Flash provides information for CALPADS administrators about the process of collecting data for the upcoming Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) for Summer 2023 and School Year (SY) 2022–23.

At this time, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has provided approval only for the California Summer 2023 P-EBT. The Nutrition Services Division will provide more information to school food authorities once the USDA approves SY 2022–23 P-EBT.

The P-EBT program is an important financial resource for eligible students to purchase food at authorized retailers. Therefore, we are requesting that your operations consider the following deadlines:

  • Ensure student enrollment and eligibility information are up-to-date in CALPADS. For sites not on a provision (i.e., Community Eligibility Provision or Provision 2 or 3), individual free or reduced-price meal eligibility must be determined before May 22, 2023 to qualify for Summer P-EBT benefits.

  • Ensure student mailing addresses are up-to-date. It is important to ensure that student addresses data are updated in CALPADS because those addresses will be used to mail P-EBT cards to students. For more information about student addresses, see the section titled Populating Student Addresses in CALPADS in CALPADS Update FLASH #250 - California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System web page.

Food service administrators are encouraged to work with their CALPADS administrators to make any updates needed prior to the collection processing deadlines. All CALPADS Flash communications are posted to the CALPADS Communications - California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System web page.

Thank you in advance for your efforts. For more information about P-EBT, please send families to the P-EBT web page External link opens in new window or tab..

Also, the Nutrition Services Division has a P-EBT email to assist program operators at PEBT@cde.ca.gov.
