Changing Participation Avenue for USDA Foods
Participants of the California Department of Education (CDE) Nutrition Services Division (NSD) Food Distribution Program (FDP) now have the option to change the way they plan to order and receive U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Foods for School Year (SY) 2022–23. Agencies who wish to make a change must email a letter of intent that includes the agency name, address, phone number, vendor number, contact name, and how the agency will participate for SY 2022–23 to FoodDistribution@cde.ca.gov by December 15, 2021. No action is required for agencies electing to continue to participate through their current method.
The NSD prepared a guide titled FDP Avenues for Receiving USDA Foods, which compares services among the CDE state distribution centers, state cooperatives (co-ops), and private co-ops. This guide is included in Management Bulletin (MB) NSD-FDP-02-2013 on the CDE FDP Changing Receipt of USDA Foods web page. Additionally, the NSD has posted a recorded training titled CDE FDP: Avenues of Participation, located in the FDP tab of the CDE Child Nutrition Programs Course Catalog web page. This training video provides an overview of the three different avenues for receiving USDA Foods in California.
To view the current fees associated with participation in the FDP, please refer to MB FDP-03-2017: New Program Fees for Agencies Receiving USDA Foods on the CDE Food Distribution MB web page. Please contact the lead district of each private co‑op directly regarding their fees.
