CNAC Member Recruitment 2020

The State Superintendent of Public Instruction (SSPI) Child Nutrition Advisory Council (CNAC) is currently recruiting for the following positions:

  • School Board Member
  • Consultant Position (specializing in nutrition, education, child care, or health and welfare—currently employed in either kindergarten through grade twelve or higher education)
  • Curriculum Coordinator
  • School Administrator
  • Classroom Teacher

The CNAC is composed of 13 individuals representing different segments of the child nutrition community. The CNAC’s mission is to advise the SSPI in areas of health, wellness, and nutrition for all students in California’s kindergarten through grade twelve public schools. With this in mind, it is critical to have all 13 members represented as they each bring their unique perspective to the CNAC.

The term of office is three years, depending on the current expiration dates. The three-year term for the School Board Member, Curriculum Coordinator, School Administrator, and Consultant begins March 2020, and expires December 31, 2022. The term for the Classroom Teacher begins March 2020, and expires December 31, 2020. The Classroom Teacher member chosen may have the option to continue another three-year term after 2020. The CNAC meets for a one-day meeting in Sacramento in September, November, March, and May. Travel and other applicable expenses are reimbursed.

Additional information about the CNAC, including the member application, is on the California Department of Education (CDE) CNAC web page.

Please distribute this information to anyone meeting the criteria for the vacant positions, especially those that participate on your wellness committee or other health-related groups in your district and school sites.

Applications must be received in the CDE by 5 p.m., Friday, January 31, 2020. Applications postmarked on or before but received after 5 p.m., Friday, January 31, 2020, will not be accepted. Applicants can mail, email, or fax completed application forms and enclosures to:
