Farm to Summer Celebration Week: June 21–25, 2021

The California Department of Education (CDE) Nutrition Services Division (NSD) wants to recognize and thank our Summer Meal Program Operators for your amazing work feeding our children nutritious meals during the summer and school closures. We also want to encourage you to participate in California’s Farm to Summer (F2Summer) Celebration Week, the week of June 21–25, 2021.

If you have not heard of F2Summer Celebration Week, it is a voluntary recognition program that the U.S.Department of Agriculture oversees and the NSD implements in California. The NSD recognizes program operators that complete the three elements: (1) Taste, (2) Teach, and (3) Connect during the designated F2Summer Week, which is June 21–25, 2021.

This is a great opportunity to be recognized for your sizzling good work in the following areas:

  1. Offering snacks or meals that include locally grown foods,
  2. Teaching agricultural-based nutrition lessons, and
  3. Sharing your activities and meals on social media or with other operators.

Program operators that participate and complete a pre and post survey along with the three elements of the celebration, can receive a One in a Melon Award Certificate and be listed on the CDE’s web page!

For more information, please visit the CDE California F2Summer Celebration Week web page where you can access activity ideas, the pre and post survey, optional online trainings, agricultural-based nutrition resources, partner contacts who help assist with the celebration, and more.
