SNP AR Prereview Training for Schools
As a requirement for your upcoming School Nutrition Programs (SNP) administrative review (AR), you are required to complete a mandatory prereview training (PRT). The purpose is to provide additional support prior to the review.
Online Course Description
This course provides an overview of the SNP AR process through recorded video modules and evaluates your understanding through assessment questions. Each video module provides information about a specific area of the SNP AR, common findings, and tips and strategies for a successful SNP AR.
Mandatory Modules and Attestation
This course has six mandatory modules and two that are mandatory only if they apply to you (Other Federal Program Reviews – Seamless Summer Option, Afterschool Snack Service, and Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program; and Special Provision Options). In order for your participation to be recorded, an authorized official from your agency must complete an attestation certifying that all applicable modules were completed. The attestation is an online form available at the end of the course.
This training is intended for school food authorities (SFA) with day students. If you are an SFA with day students and residential students, please complete the online training at the web link below. If you are an SFA with residential students only, do not complete the online training that is linked below. Please contact the Nutrition Services Division (NSD) using the information below to receive the correct online training web link for your SFA type.
Online Course Availability
The online PRT will be available until one month from the release date. Please complete the online PRT as soon as possible.
Correction to Course: Limited Use Waivers
Please note, there has been an important policy update since this training was recorded. On September 15, 2021, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) released COVID-19 Child Nutrition Response #100: Waiver to Allow Fiscal Action Flexibility for Meal Pattern Violations Related to COVID-19 Supply Chain Disruptions Impacting School Meals in School Year (SY) 2021–22.
Per this waiver, the USDA is allowing the California Department of Education NSD to waive the following until June 30, 2022:
- The requirement to apply fiscal action for missing food components or missing production records as detailed in Title 7, Code of Federal Regulations (7 CFR), Section 210.18(l)(2)(i); and
- The requirement to apply fiscal action for repeated violations involving milk type and vegetable subgroups as detailed in 7 CFR, Section 210.18(l)(2)(ii).
School food authorities (SFA) will need to keep documentation indicating a supply chain disruption occurred. Additionally, all SFAs are encouraged to apply for the meal pattern waiver and can access the meal pattern flexibility request.

Based on this updated policy, the NSD is revising the SY 2021–22 waiver election process so that all waivers are opted into once, and the approval is valid for the entire school year. The new policy eliminates the requirement to opt into the limited waivers quarterly.
