New Off-Site Monitoring Best Practices Fact Sheets

The California Department of Education Nutrition Services Division is pleased to share eight best practices fact sheets for conducting off-site monitoring of Child Nutrition Programs (CNP) during the COVID-19 pandemic. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) created these fact sheets to provide best practices for monitoring activities as monitoring processes may need to be adapted. The Off-site Monitoring Best Practices Fact Sheets can be found on the USDA FNS Off-site Monitoring Best Practices web page External link opens in new window or tab..

The fact sheets provide clarity regarding existing monitoring requirements and the content reiterates that unless a flexibility has been provided through an individual waiver (the approved state agency oversight plan and waiver), state agencies (SA) and local operators must continue to monitor program operations in line with regulations but may review off-site (e.g., via desk audit) this year.

Listed below are the eight CNP Off-Site Monitoring Best Practice Fact Sheets. The first fact sheet includes background information on all CNPs, and the other seven facts sheets are specific for each program.
