Nutrition and Social Emotional Learning Webinar

On Tuesday, November 16, at 10 a.m., the California (CA) Local School Wellness Policy (LSWP) Collaborative will provide an overview of how school wellness teams can address students’ hunger and emotional needs through nutrition education and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL).

Schools can support students’ well-being by teaching SEL using nutrition education, both in the classroom and the cafeteria. This webinar will define SEL, identify how it can support comprehensive school wellness policies, and share how a school district is implementing nutrition education with SEL.

By the end, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the connection between School Nutrition Programs, SEL, and the Social Emotional Climate (SEC).
  • Identify Policy, Systems, and Environmental (PSE) strategies to support the SEC through school nutrition and nutrition education.
  • Identify how overlapping SEL and nutrition education supports school wellness goals.

Presenters will include:

  • Nick Anicich, CA Farm to School Program Lead, CA Department of Food and Agriculture
  • Melissa Gallardo, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Community Wellness Health Educator, Lawndale Elementary School District
  • Bailey Rose, Community Nutrition Adviser, Dairy Council of California
