Proposition 12 Proposed Regulations


The California Department of Education Nutrition Services Division (NSD) would like to share an announcement from the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) regarding a new 15-day comment period for Proposition 12, the Farm Animal Cruelty Initiative due to proposed changes of the original regulation text.

The specific proposed changes are found by clicking the link for “New! 15-day Comment Period Documents – Comments Accepted December 3-17, 2021” with deletions identified by strikethrough and additions identified by double underline.

There will be a 15-day public comment period for these changes that began on December 3, 2021, and end on December 17, 2021. Any person may submit written comments regarding this proposal according to the CDFA instructions and be sent by mail or email to:

This proposition affects raw egg and pork products received in California. Products purchased for the USDA Foods program are made by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, a federal agency, for distribution throughout the nation. Commercial processors and Child Nutrition Program Operators are required to ensure that procurement of both raw and finished products are compliant with the provisions established by the state proposition.
