Reminder for Application for CEP

On April 1, 2020, the California Department of Education (CDE) shared guidance that the U.S. Department of Agriculture had extended the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) application deadline to August 31, 2020. While local educational agencies (LEA) may submit applications up until the new deadline, the CDE highly recommends that LEAs submit their CEP applications as soon as possible. Early submission of your CEP application will ensure that your district has ample time to notify families of your participation in CEP and will ensure that your identified student percentage validation is complete prior to any meal claims being submitted.

Background

The CEP is a four-year alternative meal counting and collection procedure included as part of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The intent of the CEP is to improve student access to free meals in eligible LEAs and high poverty schools, while eliminating the meal application process. For more information on the CEP, please visit the CDE CEP web page.

Resources

The CDE recently participated in webinars hosted by community partners, No Kid Hungry, California Food Policy Advocates, and the Food Research and Action Center. These webinar recordings are available online:
