COVID-19: USDA Child Nutrition Responses #39–#43

The California Department of Education Nutrition Services Division is pleased to announce that on August 4, 2020, the U.S. Department of Agriculture released Nationwide Waivers that provided one new waiver and three waiver extensions.

  • New–COVID-19: Child Nutrition Response #39, Nationwide Waiver of Onsite Monitoring Requirements for Sponsors in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). This waives Title 7, Code of Federal Regulation, Section 226.16(d)(4)(iii), and allows for offsite monitoring of facilities for all Child and Adult Care Food Program sponsoring organizations. This waiver is effective through September 30, 2021.
  • COVID-19: Child Nutrition Response #40, Nationwide Waiver of Onsite Monitoring Requirements for State Agencies in the CACFP–EXTENSION 2. This waiver extends COVID-19 Child Nutrition Response #28. The waiver extension allows flexibilities for onsite reviews through September 30, 2021.
  • COVID-19: Child Nutrition Response #41, Nationwide Waiver of Onsite Monitoring Requirements in the School Meals Programs–Revised–EXTENSION 2. This waiver extends COVID-19 Child Nutrition Response #29. The waiver extension allows the state and program operators flexibilities for onsite reviews through June 30, 2021.
  • COVID-19: Child Nutrition Response #42, Nationwide Waiver of Onsite Monitoring Requirements for Sponsoring Organizations in the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP)–EXTENSION 2. This waiver extends COVID-19 Child Nutrition Response #30. The waiver extension allows program operators flexibilities for onsite reviews through September 30, 2021.
  • COVID-19: Child Nutrition Response #43, Nationwide Waiver of Onsite Monitoring Requirements for State Agencies in the SFSP–EXTENSION 2. This waiver extends COVID-19 Child Nutrition Response #31. The waiver extension allows for onsite reviews flexibilities through September 30, 2021.

  • Public Safety Power Shutoff Event September 2020 (added 08-Sep-2020)
    Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) and Southern California Edison (SCE) have announced that public safety power shutoffs are in progress due to extreme weather and fire danger.
  • SFSP Annual Update 2020–21 (added 08-Sep-2020)
    The California Department of Education (CDE) has opened the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) Annual Update in the Child Nutrition Information and Payment System (CNIPS) for School Year (SY) 2020–21 (October 1, 2020, through September 30, 2021).
  • September 6, 2020 Statewide Emergency: Fires (added 08-Sep-2020)
    On September 6, 2020, Governor Gavin Newsom issued an emergency proclamation for the counties of Fresno, Madera, Mariposa, San Bernardino, and San Diego County.
