SNP Administrative Review in School Year 2022–23
School Year (SY) 2022–23 marks the sixth year in the current School Nutrition Programs (SNP) administrative review (AR) six-year cycle. This message provides a web link to the list of school food authorities (SFA) scheduled for an SNP AR in SY 2022–23 and prereview training (PRT) information. Please note that the list of SFAs scheduled for an SNP AR is subject to change. SFAs may be added or removed.
Impact of COVID-19 National Pandemic
Since March of 2020, SFAs have faced unprecedented challenges administering the SNPs during the COVID-19 national pandemic. These challenges have impacted meal program operation in many ways. As a result, the California Department of Education (CDE) will continue to perform SNP ARs remotely, per the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) COVID-19 Child Nutrition Response #94, until 30 days after the end of the public health emergency.
Administrative Review Cycle
On December 24, 2020, the CDE Nutrition Services Division (NSD) submitted a waiver to the USDA for Title 7, Code of Federal Regulations (7 CFR), Section 210.18(c), to extend the SNP AR five-year cycle (SY 2017–18 through 2021–22) to a six-year cycle (SY 2017–18 through 2022–23). On January 26, 2021, the NSD received notification from the USDA that our waiver request for 7 CFR, Section 210.18(c), was approved.
The SNP AR cycle is as follows:
- Year one: SY 2017–18
- Year two: SY 2018–19
- Year three: SY 2019–20
- Year four: SY 2020–21
- Year five: SY 2021–22
- Year six: SY 2022–23
The list of SFAs scheduled for an SNP AR in SY 2022–23 can be found on the CDE SNP AR web page. The number indicated on the left of the SFA’s name is the Child Nutrition Information and Payment System identification number. The web page also includes background information on the SNP AR; the review schedule; information on the prereview, on-site review, and post-review processes; and resources and training for the SNP AR.
Prereview Training
If your SFA is scheduled for a 2022–23 SNP AR, information about the mandatory PRT will be forthcoming. The PRT will only be offered online.
