Waivers for SFAs in Three Counties

The California Department of Education (CDE) Nutrition Services Division has received the authority from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to waive certain School Nutrition Programs (SNP) requirements for school food authorities (SFA) in El Dorado, Placer, and Riverside counties in response to the Mosquito and Fairview fires.

Through December 31, 2022, the following SNP requirements are waived for El Dorado, Placer, and Riverside County SFAs if needed:

  • SNP meals must be served in a congregate setting and consumed by participants on site
  • Meal time parameters for school lunch and breakfast
  • Senior high schools must participate in offer versus serve
  • Meals must be served directly to children

These flexibilities may be utilized without further approval from the CDE.

The CDE may also approve meal pattern flexibilities. SFAs requiring meal pattern flexibilities can contact the Nutrition Services Division at SNPinfo@cde.ca.gov for additional technical assistance.

If you have any questions about this subject please contact the Nutrition Programs Units at SNPInfo@cde.ca.gov.
