Dear County and District Superintendents and Charter School Administrators:
Invitation to Submit Public Comment on the Draft 2019
Health Education Framework for California Public Schools,
Kindergarten Through Grade Twelve
The California Department of Education (CDE) is pleased to announce that the revised draft of the 2019 Health Education Framework for California Public Schools, Kindergarten Through Grade Twelve (Health Education Framework) is available for its second 60-day public review and comment period, which is scheduled from November1, 2018, through January 11, 2019. The Health Education Framework will provide guidance for implementing the California Health Education Standards.
The Health Education Framework will help teachers, charter school leaders, school district and county administrators, other educators, and publishers design instructional materials, curriculum, instruction, assessments, and professional learning. It addresses contemporary health issues, provides examples of standards-based learning activities, and suggests ways to connect instruction to students’ families and the larger school community.
The revised draft Health Education Framework is posted on the CDE Health Education Curriculum Framework web page at https://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/he/cf/ and includes over 200 edits that were submitted during the first 60-day public review and comment period. Hard copies of the revised draft framework are available for review at the statewide Learning Resource Display Centers, listed on the CDE website at https://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/cr/cf/lrdc.asp.
Comments from the public will be presented to the Instructional Quality Commission for review and possible inclusion into the final version of the Health Education Framework. The State Board of Education is scheduled to take action on the Health Education Framework in May 2019.
If you have any questions regarding the public comment and review period or the Health Education Framework revision process, please contact Lindsay Weiss, Education Programs Assistant, Curriculum Frameworks and Instructional Resources Division, by phone at 916-319-0450 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
