State Schools Chief Tom Torlakson Appoints Caryn Moore as
Director of Fiscal and Administrative Services
SACRAMENTO—State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson announced today the appointment of Caryn Moore as the new Director of Fiscal and Administrative Services at the California Department of Education. She began her new assignment on April 17.
Moore has almost two decades of fiscal management experience at the California Department of Education. She is the former Associate Director of the School Fiscal Services Division.
“Caryn’s extensive financial background, experience, and proven track record as a strong fiscal administrator are great qualifications to lead this division,” Torlakson said. “We are pleased to have someone with her expertise on our management team.”
Moore started her college career as an Oceanography major at Humboldt State but switched to accounting when she realized that the call of the ocean wasn’t as strong as her aptitude with numbers. She graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting. Her education career began at the State Controller’s Office, where she audited school districts. During that time, she became a Certified Public Accountant.
In her new role as the Director of the Fiscal and Administrative Services Division, Moore’s duties will include managing California Department of Education’s budgets and accounting offices and overseeing fiscal systems and processes.
Moore says what she loves most about her job is that she is able to work in accounting and finance and also be part of an infrastructure that helps kids.Moore replaces Roxanne Eres, who retired in March.
