Public Webinar on Charter Schools Scheduled October 17
A webinar focused on the governance and resources for Charter Schools has been scheduled Wednesday, October 17, 2018, from 1 to 2 p.m. PST. The webinar is free and open to the public, and is hosted by Education Commission of the States , which provides nonpartisan education research to state policymakers and other education leaders.
In August 2018, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson announced the creation of a Charter School Action Team to review the key laws and systems governing and supporting charter schools and to make recommendations for their modernization to better meet the needs of all public school students, including those who attend charter schools.
Superintendent Torlakson has asked the Action Team to publish a brief report by the end of 2018. Currently, the focus of the Action Team is on identifying and prioritizing the most pertinent issues affecting the public education ecosystem in which both traditional and public not-for-profit charter schools coexist.
The webinar will publicly disseminate and solicit feedback on the research base being provided to this Action Team. The presenter will discuss the role and duties of authorizers, share specific state examples, and highlight best practices in authorizing.
