State Board of Education Approves ESSA State Plan

The California Department of Education (CDE) is pleased to announce that yesterday the State Board of Education (SBE) voted to approve the California Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Consolidated State Plan for submission to the U.S. Department of Education (ED). Please see the joint news release from State Superintendent Tom Torlakson and SBE President Michael Kirst announcing the approval. This approval comes after 18 months of developing the plan with extensive outreach to, and input from, California’s education stakeholders.

The CDE wants to thank the thousands of Californians who attended or hosted regional stakeholder meetings, participated in public comment surveys, and provided e-mails and letters to help inform the development of the ESSA State Plan. Through this listserv, we will continue to provide information regarding the ED review of the State Plan and opportunities to continue to participate in the state’s transition to the ESSA. We hope you’ll stay tuned!
