California’s ESSA State Plan: Revised Draft
The California Department of Education (CDE) is pleased to announce the availability of the revised draft of California’s Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Consolidated State Plan (State Plan) (DOC; 1MB). This revision is being presented to the State Board of Education (SBE) and the public as an August 2017 Information Memorandum. Please review the Summary of Key Issues in the memo for details regarding the development of this revised draft. Previous versions of the State Plan are available on the CDE ESSA State Plan Drafts Web page. A document in tracked changes format that shows the revisions made to the May 2017 draft of the State Plan will be made available on this Web page no later than August 11, 2017.
The CDE plans to present the ESSA State Plan to the SBE for final approval at its September 2017 meeting before submitting it to U.S. Department of Education on September 18, 2017. This draft is being provided in advance of the September 2017 meeting to ensure that the public has adequate time to review the document and provide additional feedback before the plan is presented to the SBE for final approval.
Stakeholders are encouraged to send feedback on the draft to the CDE by e-mail at ESSA@cde.ca.gov. The CDE will report this feedback to the SBE at the September meeting. Stakeholders who wish to have their feedback included in this report to the SBE must submit feedback to the CDE by August 25. However, stakeholders can also provide public comment directly to the SBE on this revised draft once the September meeting agenda is available.
