Intensive Level 3

Local educational agencies that have been identified as Intensive Level 3 are required to participate in all three steps of the Compliance and Improvement Monitoring process. This is the home page for that Level.

If you have been identified as Intensive Level 3 in your March 14, 2022, Annual Determination Letter, you are required to participate in all three steps of the Compliance and Improvement Monitoring (CIM) process under the California Department of Education's (CDE's) close supervision. The goal at the end of the monitoring period to have a fully developed improvement plan that seeks to implement a high leverage activity that will improve outcomes for students with disabilities in the local educational agency (LEA).

The CDE identifies LEAs for level 3 intensive monitoring if you are in the bottom 0–3.99 percent of LEAs in outcomes for students with disabilities in achievement, placement and school climate (suspension and attendance).

LEAs identified as level 3 do not conduct the CIM process independently or with the assistance and guidance of a Technical Assistance (TA) provider, but rather complete all activities under and alongside the CDE’s direct supervision; the CDE will assign relevant TA providers to participate in the monitoring and support as needed.
