STAIRS Common Scenarios Guide Posted
Remote administration this year is new for all of us. Understandably, questions have arisen regarding test security and the administration of remote assessments. In response, the quick guide Security and Test Administration Incident Reporting System (STAIRS) Common Scenarios for Remote Testing has been created and made available on the Spring Administrations for Educators website to provide help in determining when and how to report an incident in STAIRS for remote testing.
One common scenario is when an issue arises with the test delivery system and the student takes a picture of the test and then sends it to the test administrator. For reasons of test security, students should not be using unauthorized devices—including cell phones—during a test session. If an issue arises during testing, students should use the chat widget within the test delivery system to communicate with the test administrator. If this does not work, the student can sign off of the test and message the test administrator while not in an active test session. If a student takes a picture that captures secure test content, the test administrator should pause the student’s test and request that the test coordinator submit a STAIRS case using the “Exposing Secure Materials” incident type.
This and other common scenarios can be found on the STAIRS Common Scenarios web page .
New Alternate ELPAC Accessibility and Accommodations Guidelines
The CDE is pleased to announce the new Alternate ELPAC Accessibility and Accommodations Guidelines (PDF) on the ELPAC website . A companion to the ELPAC Accessibility Resources for Operational Testing , this document provides educators with additional guidance on maximizing accessibility for the Alternate ELPAC as well as support the selection of accessibility resources available for test administration. Educators will find this document highly useful during individualized education program meetings as they prepare for the 2021–22 Alternate ELPAC field test, which begins on November 1, 2021.
