2022 CAC Registration Now Live!

Registration is now open for the 2022 California Assessment Conference (CAC)! This year, the CAC will take place October 18 through 20 in person in Riverside. Can’t make a live session? A condensed virtual conference, with innovative presenters sharing valuable information, will also be made available. This will be an opportunity for educators to connect with peers and discover assessment tools and strategies for improved learning and teaching. CALPADS Downtime

We apologize for any inconveniences local educational agencies (LEAs) may be experiencing because of the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS) downtime. During this downtime, any student who did not have changes in their student information system that would affect testing, such as test settings, English Language Acquisition Status changes, or student demographic changes, may continue testing.

For ELPAC, the testing window will remain open through May 31. The test administration window cannot be extended due to the approved State Board of Education regulations that are in place. LEAs should prioritize testing eligible English learner students who have had no change to their demographics since the start of the CALPADS downtime.

For CAASPP, LEAs that are requesting a change to the end date of their administration window—particularly if their end date is rapidly approaching—should contact their Success Agent for assistance. To find your LEA's Success Agent, please visit the Success Agent Lookup web page External link opens in new window or tab..

The CALPADS downtime is expected to conclude on Monday, April 18.

Administer the CSA to Registered Students

As the California Department of Education (CDE) continues to monitor student test completion, it has been noted that the completion percentages are very low for the California Spanish Assessment (CSA). The CDE is aware that many LEAs are just starting their CAASPP testing windows. We encourage all LEAs and test administrators to assess their registered students on the CSA as this ensures both a successful administration but more importantly, the ability to refresh our tests annually. See the table below for current statewide registrations and starting and completion percentages for the CSA.

CSA Questions of the Week

What are the pause rules for the CSA?

If the test is paused for more than 20 minutes, the student will be logged out. However, after logging back in, the student will be presented with the page containing the last item the student was working on and will not be permitted to review or change previously answered questions.

Does the CSA expire?

Yes, the CSA has an expiration rule of 45 calendar days after the test has been started. The CSA must be completed and submitted no later than the last day of the LEA’s instructional calendar or July15, whichever comes first; otherwise, incomplete tests will be force-submitted.

Can the test be administered over multiple days?

Yes, it can be administered over multiple days. It is an untimed test, and students should be given as much time as needed to complete it. This test is divided into two parts. The segment break comes in the middle of the test, which the test administrators (TAs) can use for a break in testing. Once a student completes the first segment, a review screen will appear, giving the student an opportunity to go back and review responses, take a break in testing as directed by the TA, or continue to the next segment. The pause functionality can be used to allow students to complete the second segment on a different day or to pause the test at any point, depending on how much time is available to complete testing in one sitting.
