Feedback Needed This Week on Testing Window Options

The California Department of Education (CDE) needs your feedback! Working with Educational Testing Service, we are collecting information on testing window options for the 2020–21 CAASPP and Summative ELPAC via a brief online survey External link opens in new window or tab.. We are asking that the superintendent, CAASPP coordinator, or ELPAC coordinator of each local educational agency (LEA) respond to the survey before 5 p.m. on Friday, February 19.

Please note that your participation despite the short turnaround time will be very much appreciated; the information from the survey will be used to inform decisions about testing window options as well as the additional supports that could be provided to LEAs. We thank you in advance!

CDE Assessment Update Webinar Coming in March

Another opportunity for CAASPP and ELPAC coordinators to hear directly from the CDE is coming next month. Teacher Training: Using the Hand Scoring Process to Inform Teaching and Learning

Spots are filling fast, but more openings have been created for the online 2020–21 Interim Assessment Hand Scoring Workshop for Teachers—including the remaining February workshops for both English language arts/literacy and mathematics. Participants will engage in the process of hand scoring Smarter Balanced assessment items as a way to deepen their understanding of the content standards, strengthen their evaluation of student work, and promote the use of student results to inform teaching and learning.

ELPAC Question of the Week

Q: For students participating in remote test administrations, are LEAs required to send (1) the Summative ELPAC Parent and Guardian Notification Letter and (2) the spring administration Parent/Guardian Notification Letter External link opens in new window or tab.?

A: For the Summative ELPAC, letter 1 is optional, and letter 2 is required only if the LEA is planning to administer the test remotely. LEAs may choose to send both or combine the information they contain into a single letter if planning for the remote administration of all assessments. These letters are available in English and have been translated into seven additional languages.
