Upcoming ELPAC Item Writer Workshop

Are you interested in a valuable Summative ELPAC professional development opportunity? Apply to participate in the spring ELPAC Item Writer Workshop, hosted by Educational Testing Service! At this workshop, which will be held June 15–17, participants will learn how to write effective test items, after which they will be given the opportunity to begin writing items that may be used in future administrations of the Summative ELPAC. ELPAC Question of the Week

This week, our ELPAC question from the field is about a testing accommodation.

Q: Is text-to-speech available for the ELPAC?

A: Text-to-speech has already been implemented for the Listening, Speaking, and Writing domains in the sense that the specific task types and items that require audio have already been recorded. These recordings are available in the Student Testing Interface for the student to play once they reach an item with an audio recording. If a student has been assigned an accommodation of text-to-speech, the computer takes over and changes the audio to a computer-generated voice. For this reason, we do not recommend that this accommodation be applied, as there is no need.

Reminder: Downtime Next Week for CAASPP and ELPAC Systems

LEAs are reminded that the following CAASPP and ELPAC systems are scheduled for downtime from Friday, March 26, at 5 p.m. through Monday, March 29, at 8 a.m.:

  • Test Operations Management System
  • Test Administrator Interface
  • Completion Status System
