Updated, Easily Accessible: Quick Reference Guides

The California Department of Education (CDE) has revised the Quick Reference Guides (QRGs) as part of an ongoing effort to make assessment resources fully accessible to CAASPP and ELPAC coordinators, test administrators, and test examiners. The QRGs provide step-by-step instructions for how to accomplish a task or activity within California’s assessment programs. The update to the series includes the consolidation of similar QRGs into fewer guides to improve ease of access for users. Now, the QRGs can be used across multiple assessments (e.g., How to Start a Practice Test can provide accurate steps that apply to all the practice tests). The consolidation of similar QRGs reduced the total number from 68 to 28 QRGs.

The QRGs can be accessed on the CDE Quick Reference Guides web page, the CAASPP Videos and Quick Reference Guides web page External link opens in new window or tab., and the ELPAC Videos and Quick Reference Guides web page External link opens in new window or tab..

Updated CAA Eligibility Determination Guidance for Parents and Guardians

The CDE has updated the Parent/Guardian's Guide to the CAA web page with information on the California Alternate Assessments (CAAs) for the parent or guardian to consider, as a member of their child’s individualized education program (IEP) team, when determining whether assessment with CAAs is appropriate. The web page provides an overview of the CAAs for English language arts/literacy, mathematics, and science; the definition of a student with a significant cognitive disability; factors a student's IEP team should consider; and links to resources.
