2022 Interim and Formative Assessment Training Series—Register Now for Summer Sessions!
Interested in learning about tools and resources to identify and support what students know and can do? We have what you are looking for! Starting in July, an engaging training series will provide direct, online training focused on leveraging the interim and formative components of the Smarter Balanced comprehensive system of assessments to inform teaching and learning.
The 2022 Interim and Formative Assessment Training Series is designed for teachers, instructional coaches, and educators on special assignment, but local educational agency (LEA) CAASPP and ELPAC coordinators and administrators may also find this training series useful to support local educators.
This series will consist of three distinct, independent modules with multiple opportunities to attend:
Module 1: Using the Formative Assessment Process and Tools for Teachers Website to Boost Instruction, on the following dates:
- July 6, from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
- July 11, from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
Module 2: Gauging Student Progress with the Smarter Balanced Interim Assessments and Related Online Systems, on the following dates:
- July 7, from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
- July 13, from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
Module 3 is divided into separate sections—A and B—for English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics hand scoring.
Module 3A: Interim Assessment Hand Scoring for ELA
- July 18, from 9 a.m. to noon
- July 25, from 9 a.m. to noon
Module 3B: Interim Assessment Hand Scoring for Mathematics
- July 20, from 9 a.m. to noon
- July 27, from 9 a.m. to noon

Alternate ELPAC Alignment Workshop—August 1 and 2
Still urgently needed: California public school educators to participate in the virtual Alternate ELPAC Alignment Workshop. Teachers in kindergarten through grade two who teach English learner students with the most significant cognitive disabilities are needed to evaluate the degree of alignment between Alternate ELPAC items and the English Language Development Connectors for the Alternate ELPAC. Others who work with these students in a classroom content support role also are encouraged to apply. Training will be provided in preparation for this role.
The virtual Alternate ELPAC Alignment Workshop will be conducted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on August 1 and 2. It will be structured in such a way that participants must commit to attending the entirety of both days. To apply, please complete the Alt ELPAC Panelist Survey for Aug 1–2 Workshop form by June 10.
Reimbursement for LEA substitute teacher expenses or an honorarium to the panelist will be provided.
