California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) email update, June 12, 2019.

Focusing on the CAASPP System and English Language Proficiency Assessments of California (ELPAC)—and including, when timely, updates on California’s other statewide assessments.

Welcome, New CAASPP and ELPAC Coordinators

Congratulations on being designated as the local educational agency (LEA) CAASPP coordinator or LEA ELPAC coordinator, and welcome to your new role!

Registration is now open for an in-person training designed for new coordinators. The training will be held on the two days prior to the California Department of Education’s (CDE’s) annual Assessment Information Meetings. The schedule has been developed in this way to allow LEA staff to attend both the training and the annual meeting, on consecutive days, and start the school year with the most current information about California’s assessment systems.

For more information and online registration, visit the CAASPP 2019–20 Training for New CAASPP and ELPAC Coordinators External link opens in new window or tab. web page.

Reminders for the California Alternate Assessment for Science!

This week, we offer quick reminders regarding the administration of the California Alternate Assessment (CAA) for Science field test performance tasks:

  • The period for administering the CAA for Science differs from the other CAASPP assessments. Since January 8 of this year, LEAs have had access to the online 2018-19 CAA for Science performance tasks for administration to eligible students. LEAs can continue administering this assessment through the end of their instructional calendar or July 15, 2019, whichever comes first. Remember, students must attempt all three embedded performance tasks to complete the assessment.

  • Three completion status reports are available in TOMS, under “Reports,” that can assist in determining whether a student has completed all three performance tasks. These handy reports can be used for any of the CAASPP assessments.

    • The summary report (i.e., LEA-Level Student Completion Status Summary Report), which provides the total number of students registered to take the assessment and the number of students who have started and completed testing

    • The LEA-level student report (i.e., LEA-Level Student Completion Status Report), which provides the individual student completion status and shows whether a student is registered to take the test, started testing, completed testing, or has a condition code (i.e., parent/guardian or medical exemption)

    • The school-level report (i.e., School-Level Student Completion Status Report), which provides the same information as the LEA-level student report but at the school level

For more information on accessing the student completion reports in TOMS, please contact CalTAC by phone at 800-955-2954 or by email at caltac@ets.org.
