We Are Here to Support You—2020 Virtual CAC!
Just as you are here for California’s students, the California Department of Education (CDE) is here for you. To make the 2020 California Assessment Conference (CAC) easily accessible to California educators, whose schools and districts are facing unprecedented budget cuts in the 2020–21 school year, the 2020 CAC will shift to a virtual platform.
The 2020 Virtual CAC, which will be held this October 6 and 7, will be offered as a combination of live and prerecorded sessions covering a variety of assessment-related topics. As a participant, you will have an opportunity to hear from other districts, connect with educators across the state, set your own pace and agenda, and have access to recordings of each of the sessions for weeks following the conference.
Thank you for being there for our students; your commitment, support, and care are appreciated and make a difference. We look forward to seeing you at the conference!
New Call for CAC Presenters
During this time of uncertainty for LEAs, we want to ensure that we are bringing 2020 Virtual CAC attendees the most up-to-date and relevant information. Although the window to submit shared practices has closed, the CDE is opening a special window for local educational agencies (LEAs) to submit shared practice sessions that tie assessments to distance learning.
We are looking for LEAs that want to share their best practices for distance learning and assessment. For submission criteria and a link to the submission form, please refer to the invitation to submit . The window closes on June 30.
Tools for Teachers: Preview Now and Attend Webinar on June 22!
A preview of Tools for Teachers , a new website from Smarter Balanced, is now available to all California LEA staff! As the new formative assessment component of the Smarter Balanced assessment system, replacing the Digital Library, Tools for Teachers features a collection of instructional and professional learning resources that support K–12 teachers in their use of the formative assessment process during daily instruction to adjust teaching to improve student learning.
On June 22—next Monday—from 3–4 p.m., all California educators are invited to a CDE-hosted webinar to view a demonstration of the Tools for Teachers website. Registration details can be found in the June 11, 2020, email (PDF) from the California Technical Assistance Center. All California educators are encouraged to attend!
LEA staff who had a Digital Library account on the date it was decommissioned have automatic access to Tools for Teachers. Self-registration is available for new users with an LEA email address. The website can be accessed by selecting the “Tools for Teachers” button on the CAASPP website or ELPAC website . For more information about Tools for Teachers and other formative assessment resources, visit either of these websites or the CDE Smarter Balanced Tools for Teachers web page.
The grand opening of Tools for Teachers is scheduled for September 30, 2020.
