Assessment and Accountability Information Meeting Now Open to All

Registration is now open for all for the 2020 North-South Assessment and Accountability Information Meetings, hosted by the California Department of Education (CDE). These meetings will provide coordinators with the latest information and updates on California's assessment and accountability system. They will be presented virtually and each coordinator will only need to attend one of the following webcasts:

New Coordinator Training WebEx #1—A Deep Dive into Receiving Results

Calling all local educational agency (LEA) CAASPP and ELPAC coordinators who are new to their role or want a refresher! The first New Coordinator WebEx of the 2020-21 series is happening next week Thursday, July 23, 2020 at 3 p.m. This webinar is a deep dive into the tasks that coordinators need to complete to successfully receive and share assessment scores. ELPAC

The grades three through twelve 2019–2020 Summative ELPAC LEA Student Data Files and Student Score Reports (SSRs) have been released to the LEAs for students who completed all four domains. SSRs are available for download from the Test Operations Management System under the LEA Reports tab and the LEA’s student information system parent portal. Smarter Balanced Usability, Accessibility, and Accommodations Guidelines

The Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (Smarter Balanced) maintains and updates the Smarter Balanced Usability, Accessibility, and Accommodations Guidelines (Guidelines) External link opens in new window or tab. (PDF), which includes all accessibility resources that are available for the English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics tests. The same category structure is emulated for the non-Smarter Balanced CAASPP and ELPAC assessments.

Smarter Balanced concluded its most recent Guidelines review cycle and the updated Guidelines for the 2020–21 test administration year was published on June30, 2020. The updated Guidelines can be found on the Smarter Balanced Accessibility and Accommodations web page External link opens in new window or tab..

The updates to the Guidelines are as follows:

  • Added embedded expandable items to the existing expandable passages universal tool

  • Added clarification to the existing non-embedded calculator to be more generalized by changing "special calculator" to "specialized calculator" and removing "visual impairment" as a requirement from the recommendations for use

  • Included grade three as an allowable grade level for the non-embedded multiplication table accommodation, and expanded the definition from a 9 by 9 table to a 12 by 12 table

  • Included grade three as an allowable grade level for the non-embedded 100s number table accommodation

  • Revised recommendations for use for the non-embedded scratch paper universal tool to indicate that students may create their own graphic organizer on the blank scratch paper

  • Updated the embedded text-to-speech recommendations for use to a positive voice when explaining how the student needs to be familiar with the resource prior to using it on the summative assessment

  • Updated the Frequently Asked Questions section, which lists resources that are not allowed for the ELA or mathematics assessments, to remove grade three from the multiplication table, remove grade three from the 100s table, and include the non-embedded graphic organizer

  • Added embedded text-to-speech in Spanish for the mathematics assessment, beginning in the 2021–22 test administration year, to provide one test administration year to pilot the new resource

Introducing: The California Assessment Accessibility Resources Matrix

The California Assessment Accessibility Resources Matrix (Accessibility Matrix) displays the embedded and non-embedded universal tools, designated supports, and accommodations allowed as part of the CAASPP and ELPAC for 2020–21. This new Accessibility Matrix combines and supersedes the Matrix One: CAASPP and the Matrix Four: ELPAC. The updates to the Guidelines have been reflected in the Accessibility Matrix.
