CAASPP Update, Issue 102California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) e-mail update sent out on May 20, 2015.
The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) Update, from the California Department of Education (CDE), is a regular e-mail for K–12 educators, including testing coordinators, that focuses primarily on the Smarter Balanced assessments, which are a major component of the CAASPP system. CAASPP also includes the California Alternate Assessments and science assessments. Please forward this e-mail to any educators in your local educational agency (LEA) who would be interested in or benefit from this information.
In this issue:
- Summative Assessments
- Interim Assessments
- Digital Library
Please note: The Test Operations Management System (TOMS) has two upcoming scheduled downtimes for upgrades and system maintenance. The first downtime will be from Friday, May 22 through Saturday, May 23, and the second downtime will be from Friday, June 5 through Saturday, June 6. Both downtimes will be in effect from 6p.m. on the first day through 8 a.m. on the second day (Pacific time).
CAASPP Update readers preparing for and carrying out the administration of the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments are encouraged to regularly visit the CDE CAASPP System web page and CAASPP website for new and updated resources and information.
The Online Reporting System (ORS) is available to LEA coordinators through the TOMS login. The data available in the ORS represent partial, preliminary results that are not appropriate for public release. Within this real-time system, results will change daily as additional data are received and relevant appeals and rescores are processed. These changes may result in final scores being higher or lower than the preliminary results. Final data will be released publicly by the CDE in August. Key messages regarding the ORS can be found on the CDE Online Reporting System web page.
LEAs are reminded that the Smarter Balanced Interim Assessment (IA) Reporting System is available to authorized LEA users to view and download reports for individual students in their LEA who have completed interim assessment blocks (IABs) and interim comprehensive assessments (ICAs). Reports are available only after hand scoring, if required, has been completed. The IA Reporting System is available on the CAASPP website .
Test administrator (TA) resources to support the administration, scoring, and reporting of the interim assessments can be found on the CAASPP website under the TA Resources tab, Resources, Interim Assessments. These resources include user guides for the IA Completion Status, Hand Scoring, and Reporting Systems.
Final opportunity! This is the last week that the CDE will be accepting applications from California educators to join the Digital Library State Network of Educators (SNE). The SNE is a group of educators in Smarter Balanced member states who develop and review resources for the Digital Library. Participants must be available to complete 10–15 hours of self-paced online training and be prepared to begin developing resources by mid-June 2015. Other important details:
- There is no monetary compensation for participating in the SNE. SNE members will receive varying types of recognition, depending on their level of involvement. In addition, top SNE contributors to the Digital Library will have an opportunity to attend an in-person workshop with educators from other Smarter Balanced states to review resources for the Digital Library in July 2015.
- The deadline for submitting the SNE application is Friday, May 22, 2015. A link to the SNE application is available on the CDE Digital Library Web page. Questions about the application should be directed to the CDE Assessment Development and Administration Division.
