CAASPP Update readers preparing for and carrying out the administration of the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments are encouraged to regularly visit the CDE CAASPP System web page and CAASPP website for new and updated resources and information.
As of June 8, 2015, over 3.2 million students had taken at least one Smarter Balanced Summative Assessment, and approximately 1,816 LEAs had administered at least one test.
The Smarter Balanced Usability, Accessibility, and Accommodations Guidelines (UAAG) has been updated, and the latest version (dated June 1, 2015) is now available. Please distribute this latest version to all LEA school sites to replace the paper copies of older versions of this document in order to avoid incorrect assignment of accessibility supports for upcoming individualized education programs (IEPs). The major additions included in this new version of the UAAG, which will be effective for the 2015–16 test administration, are as follows:
- Text-to-speech and read-aloud accommodations for English language arts (ELA) passages available, at all grade levels, for students with a need documented in their IEP or Section 504 plan
- Read-aloud for Spanish stacked-translation designated support
- Language clarifying that intended use of PDF translation glossaries is for paper-pencil administration only
- Translated test directions (PDF) for ELA for all languages of translation supported by the Smarter Balanced tests
- Languages of translation for 2015–16 include Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic, Tagalog, Ilokano, Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean, Punjabi, Russian, Ukrainian, Dakota, French, Haitian-Creole, Hmong, Lakota, Japanese, Somali, and Yup’ik.
The Digital Library will soon have a new look! On Monday, June 15, Smarter Balanced will launch a redesigned landing page and new features for the Digital Library . Enhancements will include: a focused filtering system; a new way to access helpful information and important notifications; and clickable image and title cards to access library resources. Also available will be the opportunity to subscribe to cross-state collaboration forums and discussions, with an option to request e-mail notifications when new topics or comments are posted.
