Test Operations Management System (TOMS) Downtime Continues
Downtime for TOMS began on October 1 and will continue through October 14. During this downtime, LEAs will not be able to access the Interim Assessment Test Delivery System; the Interim Assessment Hand Scoring System; summative assessment downloadable student data files, student score report PDFs, and aggregate report files; the Online Reporting System, including viewing score reports and completion status; and the TOMS update users (add/delete) feature.
TOMS is scheduled to be back online Thursday, October 15. The new system enhancements will make the 2015–16 version of TOMS easier to use.
Available Online: 2015 North-South Information Meeting Materials
Materials from the CDE 2015 Assessment and Accountability Information Meetings are available on the CDE 2015 North-South Information Meetings web page. A PDF version of each of the PowerPoint presentations as well as the Resource Room handouts are available. Presentation videos are still being processed and will be available soon.
Digital Library Featured Resource
The Smarter Balanced Digital Library resource, Dining Out! (Explorations in Fractions, Decimals, and Percents) is a module focusing on students using fractions, decimals, and percents in the contexts of restaurants and money, including counting money, making change, and calculating taxes and gratuities.
This resource is designed to be used for all students in grades four through eight, including English learners, students with disabilities, and students in Gifted and Talented Education programs. Students use manipulatives to engage in real-world scenarios that connect the concepts of fractions, decimals, and arithmetic to the idea of spending money. Educators are encouraged to explore other resources in the Smarter Balanced Digital Library , which houses more than 2,600 formative assessment resources.
New! The customizable PowerPoint template for LEAs to communicate with parents and stakeholders about the 2014–15 CAASPP results is now available in Spanish. Reminder: The CDE is preparing to update the CDE CAASPP Public Reporting web site. The update will be based on finalized 2014–15 assessment results that may not have been included in the September 9, 2015, release. This release, in late October, will contain updates to state-, county-, district-, and school-level data as well as updates to the downloadable research files.
Riverside Unified School District has produced a Parent Video that describes the purposes of Smarter Balanced assessments. This 4:40 minute video is told from a student perspective about the importance of the Smarter Balanced Summative test results, and how the new tests will help inform and prepare students for their future. This video is an excellent resource to share with your parents and interested community members. It is also a great share for school board members and district and school site staff.
