Test Operations Management System (TOMS) Online October 15
TOMS is scheduled to be back online today, with system enhancements to make the 2015–16 version of TOMS easier to use.
One enhancement is the addition of user roles to access information within TOMS. With this new feature, LEA CAASPP coordinators will now assign user roles to define which systems can be accessed and which level of student data is available to various LEA staff. The new user roles have been designed to address privacy requirements that limit accessibility. It is important for all LEA CAASPP coordinators to know their district policies regarding student data privacy and assign user roles that comply with these policies. The manual containing instructions for logging in and adding users in TOMS will be posted on the CAASPP Welcome to the CAASPP Portal website . On October 20, ETS and the CDE will present the 2016 TOMS Adding and Managing Users and Test Administration Setup webcast , which will demonstrate how to establish testing calendars and assign new user roles.
A matrix of the systems found in TOMS along with detailed descriptions of the needs and privileges associated with each user role will be posted soon on the Welcome to the CAASPP Portal website .
New Resource: Digital Library Introduction for Teachers
The CDE has released a presentation slide deck titled “Introducing the Digital Library,” which has been developed to help LEAs familiarize teachers with the Smarter Balanced Digital Library. It provides an overview of the formative assessment process and a brief tour of the Digital Library, focusing on accessing, filtering, and navigating resources; marking favorites; and using the forum features to collaborate with other educators. The presentation can be delivered within 15–20 minutes and is recommended for use during a staff meeting or professional development session. Presenter notes are provided in the notes section of the PowerPoint file to assist in its delivery.
Summative AssessmentsThe CDE is preparing to update the CDE CAASPP Results web page. The update will be based on finalized 2014–15 assessment results that may not have been included in the September 9 release. This release, in late October, will contain updates to state-, county-, district-, and school-level data as well as updates to the downloadable research files. An e-mail will be sent out shortly to superintendents and direct-funded charter school administrators with the specifics of a preview for LEAs.
