The CAASPP Update, from the California Department of Education (CDE), is a regular email for K–12 educators, including testing coordinators, that focuses primarily on the Smarter Balanced assessments, which are a major component of the CAASPP system. CAASPP also includes the California Alternate Assessments and science assessments. Please forward this email to any educators in your local educational agency (LEA) who would be interested in or benefit from this information.

Now Available! Archived Videos and Materials from the 2015 North-South Information Meetings
Presentation videos and slides from the CDE 2015 North-South Information Meetings for LEA CAASPP coordinators are now archived on the CDE 2015-16 North-South Information Meetings web page. The annual meetings, held in the northern and southern regions of the state, focus on assessment and accountability. Topics of the 2015 videos and materials include the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments, Smarter Balanced Interim Assessments, Digital Library, CAASPP regulations, English language proficiency assessments for 2015–16, and an update on the Early Assessment Program. In addition to the videos and slides, documents from the North-South Meeting Resource Room are available, including the brochure CAASPP—How to Get Involved and the parent guides. Educators involved with any part of California’s statewide student assessment system are encouraged to explore these valuable resources.
Parent Guides for the Smarter Balanced Assessments Now Available in Spanish
The CDE is happy to announce the availability of the Spanish versions of the Parent Guide to the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments on the CDE CAASPP System web page, under the Students and Parents tab. The parent guides are for grade spans three through five and six through eight and for grade eleven.
Coming Soon! User Role Guidance for LEA CAASPP and Test Site Coordinators
Coming soon, the CDE is preparing an informational flyer for LEA CAASPP and test site coordinators when making decisions about user role assignments. This flyer will provide user role descriptions and the level of access to the various features within the Test Operations Management System (TOMS).
