Access for Eligible Nonpublic School Staff to the Smarter Balanced Interim Assessments and Digital Library
Eligible nonpublic school (NPS) staff may be permitted access to the Smarter Balanced Interim Assessments and Digital Library. The NPS staff who are eligible are educators at the NPS, whether in state or out of state, who provide direct instruction to California public school students. LEA CAASPP coordinators are responsible for ensuring that access at NPS sites is restricted to eligible NPS staff.
Digital Library Featured Resource: Evaluating Classroom Assessments
This month’s featured resource of the Smarter Balanced Digital Library, Evaluating Classroom Assessments, is an assessment literacy module. Assessment literacy modules are comprehensive, interactive, multimedia professional learning resources designed to improve educators’ understanding of summative and interim assessment and classroom formative assessment practices in the context of the Common Core State Standards.
Evaluating Classroom Assessments is a dynamic and interactive module that focuses on how educators can evaluate the quality of their summative classroom assessments. Evaluation of assessment quality in this module is demonstrated by considering alignment of the assessment with intended learning, identifying the various levels of depth of knowledge, and adhering to fair assessment practices. Interactive features of this module include opportunities to practice evaluating sample assessments for depth of knowledge levels, the ability to e-mail colleagues directly from within the module, and downloadable template worksheets.
As with other assessment literacy modules in the Digital Library, Evaluating Classroom Assessments is organized into three segments:
- Launch, which describes general module and formative assessment information
- Explore, which consists of dynamic learning material
- Summarize, which provides opportunity for active reflection and application
Educators are encouraged to explore this and other resources in the Smarter Balanced Library , which houses more than 2,600 instructional and professional learning resources. LEA staff who are not yet registered for the Digital Library should contact their LEA CAASPP coordinator to request access.
