Upcoming Downtimes for Test Operations and Management System and Test Administrator Interface
In preparation for the release of additional features in the Test Operations and Management System (TOMS) and availability of the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments through the test administrator interface, the following two downtimes have been scheduled:
- December 28, 2015, through January 3, 2016—TOMS
- January 13 through 18, 2016—test administrator interface
Recent Developments for Summative Assessments
The final summary reports are available for LEA CAASPP coordinators to preview through November 12, 2015. The CDE CAASPP public reporting site will be updated with the final summary reports on November 13 at noon. In response to feedback from stakeholders, the link to the CAASPP public website has a new location on the CDE CAASPP System web page.
A new link to the California State Parent Teacher Association’s Moving Beyond the Bubble: Improved Tests Are Finally Here has been provided on the CDE CAASPP System Web page under the Students and Parents tab. The resources found at Moving Beyond the Bubble provide information about the new Smarter Balanced assessments built to help students, parents, teachers, and school leaders determine where students are on the path to success. Included on this Web site are updated resources to help understand your child's CAASPP scores.
Version 7.2 of the secure browser used for most desktops, laptops, and netbooks during the 2014–15 CAASPP administration is set to expire on December 31, 2015. Version 7.2 will not be operable after that date; therefore, it is important that LEAs begin their upgrade to version 8.0 to ensure their readiness for the 2015–16 administration of the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments.
Educational Testing Service is recruiting California educators to serve as readers for the 2015–16 summative assessments. If interested, apply by completing the CAASPP Hand Scoring Interest Form (PDF).
New Test Administration Setting for Interim Assessments
A new setting—Manner of Administration—is available through the Test Administrator (TA) Interface for the Smarter Balanced Interim Assessments. This new setting is offered as part of an ongoing effort to enhance the integrity of interim assessment results data for potential longitudinal analyses within LEAs, and to support LEAs that choose to use the interim assessments as performance benchmarks. Two setting options are available: Standardized/Benchmark and Nonstandardized. As interim assessment administrators begin to use this new setting in the TA Interface, the following information about the Manner of Administration setting should be taken into consideration:
- It is available for use when administering both interim comprehensive assessments (ICAs) and interim assessment blocks (IABs).
- It is to be configured prior to the administration of any interim assessment.
- The default selection is Nonstandardized.
- The interim assessment for a student should be marked Standardized/Benchmark only if a valid interpretation of results can be made.
- Interim assessment results from the 2015–16 school year that are marked Nonstandardized will be purged from the Interim Assessment Reporting System at the beginning of the 2016–17 school year.
More information about the Manner of Administration setting can be found in the tip sheet (PDF) that was sent from the California Technical Assistance Center (CalTAC) to LEA CAASPP coordinators on November 3, 2015.
California Alternate Assessments
Approximately 24 California teachers will gather this December to review more than 800 newly developed California Alternate Assessment items to determine their alignment with the Core Content Connectors as well as review them for bias and sensitivity. This review will be in preparation for inclusion of the items in the 2016 test form.
Although the selection of teachers for participation in this review has been completed, more opportunities for educator involvement are being scheduled. To apply to participate in these professional development opportunities, complete a 2015–16 CAASPP Content Reviewer Application .
