New: User Role Guidance for Test Operations Management System
A new reference sheet, “CAASPP 2015–16 User Role Guidance,” has just been posted on the CAASPP web page to assist LEA CAASPP and test site coordinators in assigning user roles within the Test Operations Management System (TOMS). Included is a chart that displays the roles within TOMS along with the specific features that can be accessed by each role. A list of user role descriptions also is included to help coordinators identify the appropriate user roles for staff at their site.
New user roles have been added to TOMS, as noted in the new reference sheet, to provide educational staff with access to student test results to inform educational decisions. The new options are intended to allow for more flexibility in user role selection to meet the educational needs of students served by the LEA.
Presentation Slides from Digital Library and Interim Assessment Clinic Now Available!
Educational Testing Service (ETS), through the CAASPP administration contract with the CDE, delivered the Smarter Balanced Digital Library and Interim Assessment Clinic for LEA CAASPP coordinators throughout the state last month. This in-person training offered insight on such topics as the use of formative assessment practices to support teaching and learning in the classroom, promoting the use of the Digital Library in LEAs, and considerations for administering interim assessments and interpreting results.
The presentation slides (PDF; 5MB) from this timely and well-received clinic are now available on the CAASPP Digital Library and Interim Assessment Training web page . Educators who use or are interested in using the Smarter Balanced Interim Assessments and/or Digital Library are encouraged to review these highly informative presentation slides.
New CDE Web Page for California Alternate Assessments
The CDE is developing a new web page for the California Alternate Assessments (CAAs). The web page will include clear guidance and useful resources for school-site individualized education teams as they consider which students would be appropriately administered the CAAs. Watch for the new web page!
Review of New Test Items for the 2015–16 California Alternate Assessments
A team of California educators—both special education staff and general education content specialists—has been selected to begin work in December to review new test items for the 2016 CAA administration. These educators, numbering approximately 24, are charged with reviewing more than 800 CAA items for bias and sensitivity and determining their alignment with the Core Content Connectors.
Future Opportunities for Involvement with the CAASPP Development Process
Over the next year, opportunities will become available for California educators to contribute their expertise to the CAASPP development process as content reviewers in the following assessment areas:
- English language arts—alternate
- Language arts—Spanish
ETS is now collecting applications from California educators who are interested in participating in future content reviews. If interested, please apply by completing a 2015–16 CAASPP Content Reviewer Application .
