Online Registration Now Available for Summer Hand Scoring Workshops

Online registration is now available for the Summer Hand Scoring Workshops, announced in last week’s CAASPP Update, that will be held in July and August. Participants will learn to score constructed-response items and performance tasks for English language arts/literacy and mathematics and to prepare students for the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments.

The workshops will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and take place as follows:

  • July 18—Double Tree by Hilton, Sacramento
  • July 20—California State University East Bay, Hayward
  • July 25—Hilton Garden Inn Del Mar, San Diego
  • July 27—Courtyard Oxnard, Ventura
  • July 29—County Office of Education, Los Angeles
  • August 2—University of California, Riverside
  • August 4—Double Tree by Hilton, Fresno
  • August 16—County Office of Education, Shasta

Reminder: Setting the Manner of Administration for Interim Assessments

Local educational agencies are reminded to use the Manner of Administration setting to designate interim assessments that are administered in a standardized manner. This setting is available for all interim assessments administered in the 2015–16 school year and beyond. Any interim assessments not identified as having been administered in a standardized manner will be purged from the Interim Assessment Reporting System at the beginning of the 2016–17 school year. The specific date for this data purge will be announced this summer.

Setting the manner of administration to “Standardized/Benchmark” can be done in two ways. While the recommended option is to set it in the Test Administrator Interface before approving a student to begin an interim assessment, it also can be set after the assessment has been administered by using a downloadable data file from the Interim Assessment Reporting System. This second option requires the LEA CAASPP coordinator to work with CalTAC to re-upload the file and requires additional time for completion.
