There’s Still Time: 2016–17 CAASPP Institute!

It’s not too late to sign up for the second annual CAASPP Institute, an exciting, two-day professional development opportunity that will provide strategies for using all components of the CAASPP System to improve teaching and learning. The California Department of Education and the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) will offer the Institute this winter throughout California as follows:

Dates Location
January 26–27 Sacramento
February 2–3 Santa Rosa
February 2–3 Oceanside
February 7–8 Pasadena
February 9–10 Riverside
February 14–15 Fresno

Focusing this year on “digging deeper,” the Institute will include large-group plenary sessions, topic-driven breakout sessions, and opportunities for collaboration and guided planning. All local educational agencies are encouraged to send a team of up to four staff to take advantage of this opportunity. For more information and instructions for registering, visit the SCOE 2016–17 CAASPP Institute Registration web page External link opens in new window or tab..

Now Available—California Alternate Assessment Performance Level Descriptors

The California Alternate Assessment (CAA) performance level descriptors (PLDs) for both English language arts and mathematics are now available, including the general PLDs and the grade- and content-specific PLDs for both content areas:

  • The general PLDs are short policy descriptors that convey the degree of student achievement in a given achievement level.

  • The grade- and content-specific PLDs are empirically based descriptions of what students at each performance level do know and what they are able to do.

Taken together, the PLDs, along with threshold scores, convey to educators, parents, student, and the public the meaning of the CAA assessment results.
