CAASPP Update, Issue 235California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) e-mail update, December 13, 2017.
Focusing on the CAASPP System, including the Smarter Balanced assessments—a major component of CAASPP—and the California Alternate Assessments and science assessments.
An Individualized Institute: Customize Your CAASPP Training!
The 2017–18 CAASPP Institute will provide options for participating teams to select breakout sessions catered to the participants’ interest and level of expertise. Attending local educational agency (LEA) teams can access comprehensive training for implementing all components of the CAASPP System. For example, the session “Empowering Teachers to Create Performance Tasks” has been designed to prepare teachers who already are familiar with summative and/or interim assessments for creating and using performance tasks in classroom activities.
More information on the CAASPP Institute, including the session opportunities, locations, and registration details, can be found on the Sacramento County Office of Education event registration page . The Institute kicks off in Sacramento on January 11 and 12, and with four locations already at capacity, time is running out to register!
More Great Support for Interim Assessments: 34 NEW Digital Library Connections Playlists
Smarter Balanced, in collaboration with educators from California and other consortium member states, has produced 14 new Interim Assessment/Digital Library Connections playlists for mathematics and 20 new playlists for English language arts/literacy (ELA). The Connections playlists provide links to Digital Library resources that support instruction based on student performance on Smarter Balanced Interim Assessment Blocks. Educators can use these playlists to find relevant and useful instructional supports that are aligned with students' needs.
These new arrivals add to the 11 Digital Library Connections playlists already available, and more playlists are scheduled to be added to the collection in spring 2018! Explore all playlists by selecting the “Playlist” tab in the Smarter Balanced Digital Library (Digital Library account required). For more information, including links to sample playlists, visit the California Department of Education (CDE) Digital Library Playlists web page.
Version Assignments for the 2017–18 California Alternate Assessment for ELA and Mathematics Now Available
The California Alternate Assessment (CAA) version assignments are now posted on the CAA for ELA and Mathematics Version Assignments web page of the CAASPP web portal . Simply select the LEA’s county to access a linked file that contains a list of schools, with version assignments by grade within each school. Any school that does not appear on the list will be assigned Version 1 by the test delivery system at the time of administration.
Information Sharing from the Assessment Development and Administration Division: 1 Percent Threshold Justification
The deadline for submitting the 1 Percent Threshold Justification form is this Friday, December 15. LEAs must complete the survey if they will be exceeding the 1 percent threshold for the 2017–18 administration of the alternate assessments. To complete the survey, the following information will be needed:
- Number of students projected to take an alternate assessment
- One or more reasons
- Justification for exceeding the threshold
Related guidance and the link to the justification form are located on the CDE 1 Percent Threshold on Alternate Assessments web page.
