More Formative Assessment in Action!

The sixth video in the California Department of Education (CDE) Formative Assessment in Action series is now available! The video—“Three Acts Math Lesson”—highlights the work of State Network of Educators member Cassandra Gartung, an instructional coordinator in the Victor Elementary School District. In the video, Ms. Gartung first works with her grade three students to put in place the inquiry process to solve a mathematics problem that involves the number of knots tied in a given length of rope. Next, she guides the students through the formative assessment process and observes their problem-solving strategies as they complete the task. Last, she asks the students to share their processes for solving the problem before she shows the solution. View this 12-minute video and others from the series showcasing California educators engaged in high-quality teaching and learning, which can be found on the CDE Formative Assessment in Action web page.
