CA Workforce Pathways Joint Advisory Committee

The California Workforce Pathways Joint Advisory Committee (CWPJAC) plans to address systems alignment policies specific to career pathways within the context of recent and future state and federal investments. In this way, California will be well positioned to take advantage of the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act and determine how those federal funds may complement and further California’s policy objectives regarding workforce pathways in the state’s regional economies.

• In March 2023, the CWPJAC adopted the California State Plan for Career Technical Education (PDF).
• In August 2020, the U.S. Department of Education approved the 2020–23 Federal Perkins V State Plan (DOCX).
• In November 2019, the CWPJAC adopted the Guiding Policy Principles to Support Student-Centered K–14+ Pathways.
• In May 2019, the State Board of Education approved the California State Transition Plan for Career Technical Education (DOCX).

California State Plan for Career Technical Education

The California State Plan for Career Technical Education (CA State Plan for CTE) is a strategic plan and call to action which sets forth a student-centered vision for the future of high-quality CTE in California. The CA Sate Plan for CTE provides guidance to regional CTE interest holders for strengthening, aligning, and building on current efforts—with an eye toward innovation—to achieve excellence and equity in CTE across the state.

2020–23 Federal Perkins V State Plan

The federal Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21^st Century Act (Perkins V) legislation requires states to submit a State Plan to the U.S. Department of Education (ED). The plan describes what activities will be undertaken to improve, enhance, and expand high-quality CTE programs throughout California. The ED approved California's Federal Perkins V State Plan on August 3, 2020.

The meeting agendas of the CWPJAC cover a range of educational issues focusing on vocational/career technical education as outlined by California Education Code 12053. The issues on the CWPJAC agendas are of interest to educators, state and local policy makers, parents and guardians, students, industry, and community members. The public is welcome.

Generally speaking, the agenda and agenda items, will be uploaded 10 days prior to the CWPJAC’s meeting. The supporting materials (e.g., attachments, addendums, CWPJAC commentary, or related reports) will be listed below the item number as they become available electronically.
