Linking Policy

Linking policy for the California Department of Education.

Linking to the CDE Web Site

Advance permission is not required before linking to the CDE website. Links should be made using the appropriate base URL of https://www.cde.ca.gov/ or other URL linking directly to subpages. However, because the CDE may change subpages at any time without notice, the owner of the linking website should routinely verify links to the CDE subpages.

What Website Owners May Not Do in Linking to the CDE

Website owners may not present the CDE website content as that of the site owner, otherwise misrepresent the content of the CDE pages, misinform users about the origin or ownership of the content of the CDE website, or express or imply that the CDE endorses the site without the CDE's express approval. Any link to the CDE website should be a full forward link that passes from the client browser to the CDE website unencumbered. Site owners should not link to individual image, data, sound, or movie files in an effort to place the downloading burden on the CDE servers. Also, site owners should review the CDE Copyright Statement regarding permission to reproduce the information (text or graphics) contained on the CDE website.

External Links

The CDE does not accept link requests. However, some links included within CDE web pages may cause the web visitor to leave the CDE's website (external links that are indicated with this symbol: External link opens in new window or tab.). Such links are limited to those that meet the CDE's governmental purpose. Linked sites are not under the control of the CDE, and the CDE is not responsible for the contents of any linked site, any link contained in a linked site, or any changes or updates to such sites. The CDE is not responsible for webcasting or any other form of transmission received from any linked site. The CDE is providing these links only as a convenience, and the inclusion of any link does not imply endorsement by the CDE or any association with the sites' operators.

Reciprocal Links

The CDE website does not enter into reciprocal link agreements. The CDE provides links to sites that are appropriate to the CDE's mission. The creation of a link to an external site does not obligate the site owner to provide a link back to the CDE; however, the site owner, of course, is welcome to do so.
